CoreWeave is the first cloud provider to roll out Nvidia’s latest AI chips, marking a major milestone in the race for next-generation artificial intelligence infrastructure. On Thursday, CoreWeave and Nvidia announced that the Blackwell Ultra chips, the company’s next-generation graphics processor for artificial intelligence, have been commercially deployed at CoreWeave.
The chips arrive in Dell-built systems based on Nvidia’s GB300 NVL72 AI architecture, which were delivered to CoreWeave this week. CoreWeave has received shipments of Dell-built shipments based around Nvidia’s GB300 NVL72 AI systems, Dell confirmed Thursday. This makes CoreWeave the first cloud company to install systems based on the Blackwell Ultra architecture.
Each of these new systems is liquid-cooled and houses 72 Blackwell Ultra GPUs and 36 Nvidia Grace CPUs, with all assembly and testing completed in the U.S., according to Dell. Nvidia expects to ship Blackwell Ultra chips in volume later this year.
Shares of CoreWeave rose 6% following the news, while Dell gained about 2% and Nvidia shares edged up less than 2%.
The deployment marks a significant achievement for Nvidia, which continues to dominate the AI chip market. Nvidia said Blackwell Ultra can produce 50 times more AI content than its predecessor, Blackwell.
Investors keep a close eye on Nvidia’s rollout of new hardware for any signs of production delays. Nvidia CFO Colette Kress had previously stated in May that Blackwell Ultra shipments would start in the current quarter.
This move also boosts CoreWeave’s competitive position in the cloud computing space. While it remains smaller than hyperscalers like Amazon, Google, and Microsoft, its ability to offer Nvidia’s latest chips first give it a way to differentiate itself.
CoreWeave historically has a close relationship with Nvidia, which owns a stake in the cloud provider. CoreWeave went public earlier this year, and the stock price has quadrupled since its IPO.
CoreWeave rents out access to Nvidia GPUs to other cloud platforms and AI developers, making it a key partner in Nvidia’s ecosystem as demand for advanced AI chips continues to soar.
