Salesforce Inc. CEO Marc Benioff says artificial intelligence is now taking on a substantial share of the company’s workload, signaling the growing role of automation in reshaping corporate operations.
In an interview on The Circuit with Emily Chang, Benioff revealed that a large portion of internal functions at Salesforce are now managed by AI. “AI is doing 30% to 50% of the work at Salesforce now,” he said, referencing tasks ranging from software engineering to customer service.
The comment highlights how tech industry leaders are increasingly open about the labor-replacing capabilities of AI. Companies like Microsoft Corp. and Alphabet Inc. have also disclosed that AI is already generating roughly 30% of code on certain software projects. Salesforce has noted that its internal use of AI has contributed to slower hiring, as automation reduces the need for additional personnel.
The San Francisco-based software firm has been pushing its AI offerings to clients, including tools that aim to manage customer service requests without human intervention. According to Benioff, that tool is now highly reliable, even among the company’s largest clients. He said that tool has reached about 93% accuracy, including for large customers such as Walt Disney Co.
Benioff urged professionals to begin embracing AI’s potential rather than resisting it. “All of us have to get our head around this idea that AI can do things that before we were doing,” he said. “We can move on to do higher-value work.”
Salesforce made its mark in the 2000s by transforming how software was delivered, shifting to a cloud-based model for customer relationship management. Today, as the tech world pivots toward AI, Benioff is positioning the company to maintain its leadership by integrating artificial intelligence across its platform.
